However, to develop a tourism business in Timor-Leste is extremely challenging, as the number of tourists are too few and the economic benefits are too small to sustain and develop many tourism businesses. This is not just about the economic benefit for ourselves but reflects our passion to contribute to developing our country through tourism<\/p>\n<p>Jonias used to work at Timor Adventures which was owned by an Aussie couple, Dave &amp; Shirley, who were really passionate about Timor and have contributed a lot regarding the developing of Tourism Destination Management and Organization in Timor-Leste. Jonias has excellent knowledge of the history and geography of Timor Leste and was keen to share this with the group. Jonias' connections across the country ensured that we were able to see areas that are not usually visited by tourists. From the museums and attractions of Dili through the visually stunning mountains and to the history of Balibo our group experienced the best of Timor Leste. Jonias was a great guide and speaks good English and has great knowledge of the areas we travelled, he is very easy to travel with. Even with our original flight from Darwin having to return to Darwin because of rain he managed to rearrange our 10 day tour and get access to the museum after hours in Dili to help us still see all the planned activities. He has local guides from most of the areas we travelled so got access to areas not available to a normal tourist. Exposto was a great experience and we learned a lot about the history and culture of the country. First we visited the most important places in Dili and the Christ statue. The museum was particularly impressive and so was Jonias' very moving family history. Then we went to the mountains to the coffee plantations. Finally, to the Dutch fort and the Portuguese prison.
